BassMachine
BassMachine's interest
in EDM music started
with mix tapes circa
1996. Heavily influenced
by the sounds of Jungle
from Dj Trace, SS,
Dieselboy, Ed Rush,
Zinc, Source Direct, and
others, prompted
BassMachine into buying
records and purchasing a
set of Technics to start
mixing. During the next
few years BassMachine
moved from Old Skool and
started mixing harder
and faster. But it
wasn’t until Sunday,
July 4 1999 when 2tuff’s
“Injected the Virus”
with appearances by Ed
Rush & Optical, MC
Rymetyme, Slant, Stress,
Overload and Mecha
introduced BassMachine
to the virus sound which
instantly drove him to
an obsession with this
new sound. Instantly
BassMachine was pulled
towards the new genre
“Tech Step/Nurofunk”.
During those years
BassMachine didn’t have
the opportunity to play
out that often but
managed to play a few
gigs here and there with
the help of friends. A
few years went by and
2001 brought a new wave
of styles and tunes.
Liquid Funk and other
Sub-Genres were
obtaining popularity in
the scene attracting
more followers with
different tastes in
music. This was a great
year for DNB specially
the National scene
because a lot of US
artist were emerging
making a name for
themselves by producing
high quality tunes that
were getting rotation by
the scene’s godfathers
such as Andy C, Zinc,
Randall, Doc Scott to
name a few. The US scene
was finally proving that
there was a lot of
talent to be exploded
here thanks to the help
of the ones like Hive,
UFO!, Echo, Sabottage,
Pieter K, and Gridlok.
During this time
BassMachine was invited
to help out at a weekly
event in Bethesda
“Player’s Ball” which
led to his affiliation
with Kind Bass Inc.
Bassmachine’s name began
to pop up in flyers,
line ups, and Internet
Radio Shows in the
Washington Metropolitan
area along UK top DnB
DJs such as Aphrodite,
Matrix, Black Sun
Empire, Spirit, Silver,
and most recently US
sensation Gridlok. 2003
marked an even better
improvement in the scene
thanks to the internet.
Drum and Bass turned
into a global movement
no longer just popular
in the UK and US.
BassMachine is current
educating himself on the
production aspects of
the music. He has been
involved in long studio
sessions perfecting his
new trade. The future
ahead seems bright and
the studio project is
75% up and running with
the help of good friend
and soon to be partner
in production Matt
Sanborn from Broken Soul
D.C. Their main goal is
going to focus on
providing genres for all
audiences ... from the
dark recesses with
technical amen's to the
funkiest bassliness ...
our ultimate goal is to
keep the dance floor
moving ... |
